Many students often find
difficulty in studying for major exams more especially when the exams are fast
approaching and more likely that they would find themselves cramming one day before
the examination date. Here are some tips
that you may apply if you think that you are having the same problem in
studying for major examinations:
1.
Determine first the coverage of the exams.
Teachers usually give the
coverage of the examination a week or two before the exam period. You must take note of their pointers for you
to have a preview of what’s going to appear in the examination and that you may
not waste your time in studying the topics which are out of the scope of the
exam. If your teacher never gives the class
the coverage of the exam, take the initiative to ask the teacher about it.
2.
Have a file of your quizzes with you
Past quizzes are very
important tool for you to review the topics which you do not yet understand
fully. It will also help you determine the kind of questions that your teacher
may possibly give you in the exams (as most teachers get some questions from
the quizzes).
3.
Expect for the worst case scenario
Most of the students feel
shocked at the time the examination papers are handed to them – due to the fact
that they do not expect that the exam would look that way. Expecting for a
worst case scenario will help you prepare for the exam in a more focused way.
4.
Prepare an outline of the topics covered by the exam
Write the topics that are
covered by the exam as it would be easier for you to memorize the topics if you
are writing them. It is like writing the
details into your brain. Repetition will
create familiarity. Don’t think about how tiring this will be. Sacrifice is
temporary but success is forever.
5. If you still have time, you can make your
own exam
Testing yourself by writing
an exam for yourself is one way to increase your mastery of the exam. But you have to consider also the time that
you would spend in writing the exam.
Check first how long it would be for you to finish it because you might
not be able to review other topics covered by the exam.
6.
Think positive.
Before studying, never think that
you would fail the exam. Sometimes what
is in your mind happens in a reality. Hope for the best and pray to God that
the examination question to be given will be the ones which you studied.
